Several branches within the German Oriental Society as well as other academic societies (e.g. the DAVO, the German Working Group Near East), convene their annual meeting during the weeklong event. The DMG itself holds its annual public assembly.

The last conferences took place in 2001 in Bamberg, 2004 in Halle and 2007 in Freiburg.
